By Blake Jacobs

To have a dog as our companion in our home can be highly enjoyable, fun and exciting especially if we are a pet lover. Many people get a dog for several reasons and purposes. Most people buy dogs as a pet and a play mate, while some adopt one in order for them to have a companion, a friend, a guard dog and even a work companion. Whatever our purpose is, we must all be aware of the duties and responsibilities associated in getting a dog. As a matter of fact, the responsibility does not only stop in giving them their food or shelter, we will also discuss some other things that should be a part of our duty as the owner.

The very first thing to do before buying a dog is that we should have an idea about the breed that we will buy so that we can see what things should we buy for them. Next is to buy other things that the dog or dogs will use like water and food bowls, dog food, bedding, a leash, ID tags, collars and many more. It is a must that we buy a dog bed so that the dog will know that that is their territory. Buying a dog bed will also refrain them from sleeping on our sofa. Make sure to make their bed to be supremely comfortable, so they will not go around the house to find a comfortable location.

As we have mentioned a while back, our responsibility to become a future dog owner is not only in giving them their most basic need. As a good owner, we must also be aware of their sociological and health related needs. Aside from our daily routine in jogging or going to the park for some walk, we can bring our dog with us so that they can also have some sort of exercise. It is also a must to bring them to their vet for a regular check up this way they can easily detect if your dog has some health problems.

Aside from the basic needs, health related needs and sociological needs, we must also be aware of their need, to be trained with regard to proper behavior at home or wherever you are. Now we know our duties and responsibilities as a future dog owner, then it is time for us to adopt one. To have full knowledge on how to take proper care of our dog is extremely critical information that we must know. Many people hire professional dog trainers and training services like Columbia dog training, Annapolis dog training, Maryland dog training, Baltimore training. Wherever our location is, we can hire a dog training service near us to help us train our dogs.

Training a dog will tremendously benefit us especially if they can be trained on the proper use of their potty. Some dog owners get frustrated in cleaning up their dog's mess, so most of them even hire a professional dog training service that trains and teaches their dogs the right behavior whenever they are at home or outside. Training our dogs can also tame them, so they know how to act whenever we have a visitor or a friend who drop by our house. Most untrained dogs tend to break home furniture, bark excessively and even bite people whom they suspect to be an enemy.

If we want to buy a dog, there are so many breed that we can choose from. There are dogs that are easy to train. Some dogs can be used for sporting, a working dog, a child-friendly dog, a hypoallergenic dog, a toy dog and a watch dog. Some dog breeds include Great Dane, spaniel, beagle, Shih Tzu, retriever, German shepherd, Foxhound, poodle, Maltese, pinscher, collie, Havanese, terrier, Chihuahua, Dalmatian, a pug, spitz and chow. There are 190 dog breeds today if we search it online.

To summarize, there are so many responsibilities that are attached in getting or adopting a dog. The most fundamental duty is to give those dogs the primary needs like shelter, food and even clothes that suit the weather. Health related needs as well as their sociological needs should also be met. In addition to these duties, it is also extremely beneficial for us to teach them or train them or better yet hire a reliable dog training service to do the job.
