A Look At Wooden Garden Furniture And Its Many Advantages

By Daisy A. Hill

Garden furniture comes in a variety of styles and materials, but wooden furniture still remains the most popular option. The main reason is self-evident - the natural material fits in far better with the outdoors than plastic or metal, creating a relaxing yet enjoyable atmosphere.

The main type of garden furniture is of course tables and chairs that usually sit on the patio and you would think that there would not be so many different types but there are, lots of different styles and functionality. Small gardens should probably have folding tables and chairs so that they can be stored away at the end of the day so that the garden does not look too small, and bigger gardens would benefit from large tables for more people to take full advantage of the size.

There is some other great furniture for the garden, such as sun loungers for those summer days, deckchairs to sit and read in or even hammocks which are generally a swing for adults! Benches also sometimes have some storage under the seat which is good for those without a lot of space. Another way of making the garden look tasteful is to pick some nice cushions to go on the wooden seating, however remember to take them back in at the end of the day!

Of the types of woods available (some of the more common being teak and cedar) they each have their advantages and disadvantages, relating mostly to how durable they are. Yet the durability of garden furniture is something that affects all materials subjected to wind, rain, and sun, not just wood. Simple procedures such as covering furniture with a tarpaulin sheet in winter and reinforcing the strength of the wood with a special paint annually will significantly increase the life of your furniture.

Wooden furniture can complement any garden, big or small and fits in with other popular garden ornaments such as birdhouses. A welcome result of its popularity is that prices remain competitive ensuring that you can make the most out of your outdoor living space - after all, money doesn't grow on trees.
