Healthy Eating For Kids Is Important

By Jeff Wise

As a parent, you are the best to answer this question. You know (or should if you don't) what your child consumes every day. Are they eating proper foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains or are they mostly eating sugary, greasy, fattening foods? Is there healthy eating for kids at your home?

If they are more like the latter, the best way to change their diets is to start with yourself. Kids tend to follow in their parents footsteps and they are always observing you. Therefore, you must be a good role model and live a healthy lifestyle. If there is healthy eating for the parents then there will be healthy eating for kids.

The quickest way to change your eating habits is during your next trip to the grocery store. Spend more time shopping the parameters of the store than the middle aisles. Buy more produce and less items from a box. If you stock your pantries with these foods your children will have healthy snack options. They can't eat what they don't have access to.

You're bound to hear protests once you change your family's meal plans. If this is the case, take things slowly. Gradually incorporate healthy foods while still giving them some of the foods they love. Eventually, though, their consumption of bad foods should be few and far between.

Finally, if your child is used to bad foods, they may protest the change. If that's the case, don't completely change their diets overnight. Give them some of the foods they love, while introducing healthy options too. Gradually, they should be eating more healthy foods and less fattening foods.

You love your child and want to be their best role model. Show them how much you love them by making them healthier today. Healthy eating for kids equals healthy eating as adults.
