Everybody Desires Camping Essentials

By Rickey Pletcher

When we were still newlyweds, my husband had an idea about kayaking, he suggested that maybe we could enjoy it as a hobby. I was always eager to learn new things and seek adventure so me and my husband enrolled in a kayak class. I feel relaxed when I'm in water, swimming at sea and even scuba diving. But I found out from the second class that kayaking was not for me. The session was about what to do if the boat turned over leaving you upside down. The thought of it already frightened me. My husband though was having a time of his life, as they say, what a duck feels when he's home.

So, we took many kayaking trips on every river he could find - the more rapids, the more adrenaline rush. Since I didn't want to go on the kayak, I agreed to driving him to the drop-off site and fetching him afterwards down the river. This was perfectly fine with me.I could sit in the car in a beautiful wooded environment, or hike, inspect the local fauna and flora, read or just relax. Since my husband and I both agreed on that, we brought lunch, change of clothes and equipment. He also loves taking pictures like I do, so we also brought our cameras with us, including chargers, batteries and all the accessories that we could bring!

Once, he talked a friend into coming with him into our kayak trips. This friend was one of the most-not-so-outdoorsy- people I have ever known. However, he thought that it was time to learn and try something new. He attended kayaking lessons and turned out to be good in what he does. It turned the other way around though when he went kayaking in the real world for the first time. His boat flipped and he got trapped under the water in some branches and couldn't get out. His life was in danger when his boat did not turned back up immediately. My husband had been watching him and noticed what had happened so he went underwater without delay and rescued him. If my husband hadn't seen what went wrong with him and rescue was delayed, he would have died. He believed my husband's quick reflex saved his life. That experience traumatized him that he didn't want anything to do with the kayak anymore, he immediately disposed his kayak the next day.We had a lot of wonderful adventures in those days and many photographs to remind us of the places we have been.

As we became older and our activities changed, so are the developments in technology.Though kayaking has been retired as we have, there are still adventures of hiking and photographing along the way. Not so long ago, during our trekking trips, we always brought with us all our camera equipment including its accessories. It was quite cumbersome. You might as well add on that list, cellular phones, Blackberry and other things because you can't leave the house without that at these times. Extra batteries, we don't need that anymore because of what we've discovered. It's amazing!

A solar panel, that's what it is. It's flexible and easy to carry. It can be used while riding on a kayak or trekking up the mountain range or even camping outside because it's water-resistant, resilient and manageable. This flexible solar panel can be used to charge cameras, cell phones, video cameras and even our cars. It's convenient to keep and bring along on our travels. Since we're not into kayaking anymore, it would have been a big help at that time. In any case, we do have other trips where we bring it along because it's handy. This thing is marvelous!
